Attaining A Degree

I have to admit that I was a little unsure about getting my college degree. I was not sure if I was up to snuff when it came to trying to keep up with these college kids. There was at least some chance in my mind that they would overtake me and that I would not be able to keep up in my classes. I am happy to report that this was not the case.

There are many programs designed for those seeking a degree even as an adult. These programs are available at virtually any college throughout the country. The point of them is to encourage people to return to school and actually get a degree. It helps the states that these individuals are in, and it helps the schools that they attend. Plus, the student him or herself also benefits as well of course.

For me, going back to school was a little daunting. I had not even given it a try in so many years, and there was sure to be a lot that had changed. There was a lot more technology being used now, and I was afraid that this would put me at a disadvantage. Not to worry though, these same programs were there to help me figure that all out as well.

What I found out from going back to school is that the schools are really there to help you. They want you to graduate, and when you do you are going to feel like you are the king of the world. There is a lot that you can say about your accomplishments, and you can be proud that you have worked so hard for something so valuable in your life. There is nothing better than that feeling when it comes to school.

Paying for Graduate School

After getting my undergraduate degree, I knew I needed an advanced degree to move up the ladder and get the kind of money I wanted when I first started college. Things had changed, and there were fewer jobs and more people were entering into the field. The only thing that would give me an advantage was an advanced degree.

But the biggest problem was paying for it all. While it was only a two year program, it cost twice as much for the tuition. I had done very well as an undergraduate as far as grades were concerned, and I was looking forward to the greater challenges of graduate work.

One of my graduate counselors told me there were only three graduate assistantship slots available for more than 100 incoming students. I didn’t know anything about the opportunity, and she explained that it was a scholarship of sorts. The school would pay for half of the tuition and require me to work no more than 20 hours a week – with pay! The work was for the school in the Administration Building.

This was a huge opportunity for me to be able to focus on my academics while never having to leave campus. I calculated that between the university paying for half and my savings I could make the tuition and use the money I made to live off of. It was a sweet deal, but first I had to qualify.

To qualify, I needed a combination of demonstrated need and academic excellence. The needs test was easy – I was almost broke except for my savings. My grades were there, though they could have been better as I did spend some time partying. I waited for about a month before the answer came back. I got one of the slots!

Once the money issues were taken care of, I could go back and get back to focusing on my education. When I look back on it, I realize that the money part of college is a real distraction. My focus has mostly been on the education part of going to college. I did party some, but that mostly during Spring and Summer breaks. But this was way more serious, since once this is done it is out looking for a job to start my career.

Why I Chose to Further My Education

Education is vital. That is what I told myself several times before I decided to further my education. In this day and age, the only way to get a real, great, well paying job is to go to school and work towards getting a degree. I couldn’t be more happy to tell you that it has been one of the best decisions of my life.

Not only is going back to school giving me more self confidence, but it also shows my family and children that if I can do it, they can as well. Getting a great education can be time consuming and at times even challenging. However, by putting in the time it takes I know that it will be worth it in the end. The feeling of getting the degree I worked so hard for put in my hand will be like none other.

There are several different options to choose from when deciding to further my education. I chose one that I am most passionate about. If you truly love something it is easier to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

However, if you already have a certification, you can still go back to school to earn a degree. Degrees are the best way to move up in a current job field or even transfer to a new one. When you earn a degree you will see a drastic improvement in your income. After all, money makes the world go around.

I have faith in me and I have faith in you. Together, we can make it through this journey to better our lives and come out with a higher education and a better degree.
